Our moment of fame in Bollywood

Our first followers know we worked as extras in a Bollywood movie last year in December. The movie was Ra.one, with superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor, and you can check the movie’s official website here.

Well, we just received an email from our Indian friend Shailey (thank you Shailey!) with a link to one of the promo videos of the movie – it turns out this is the music video we’re in 🙂

One of the few pictures I was able to shoot in the studio (with my iPhone) - the staff made it clear since the very beginning that photos weren't allowed.

Now, even though we spent a whole day in the studio, that day the director only shot the first 10 seconds of the video. And, as you guessed correctly, when you see the video you won’t see our face, because we were part of the crowd.

That's how Romana looked like that day :)

Here is how it works: from 0:03 to 0:08 look for the scenes when the camera catches the whole club. Look at the sides of the screen. Depending on what part you’ve stopped the video at, you will see two balconies with people dancing on them, one group on the left, one on the right. These are supposed to be Vip areas. Romana is in the group dancing on balcony on the left-hand side, while I’m in the opposite area. Because these fragments last less than a split second you may have to try and pause a few times before you’re actually able to catch the scene. And even if you catch it we’re small and in the distance.

I’m pretty sure that all that happens after 0:10 was shot during the following days – I noticed that the people you see on the balconies are different people than the ones who were with us that day.

I’ll leave you with the video – it’s not my kind of music but it brings back some nice memories 🙂 Now I’m also curious about the movie, and hopefully I will get to watch it soon.

  • Love the outfits! I was an extra in Shah Rukh Khan’s film, My Name is Kahn. It was a very long day, but so much fun! You can see the top of my head 😉

Hi Annette! Experiencing Bollywood is really good fun. I’m glad you got the chance to do it too.
By the way, thanks for introducing us to your site 🙂

  • This is awesome! I never thought of doing this when we’re in India, but now I’m intrigued. 😉

    • It’s not difficult to find a job as a Bollywood extra for a day or two. We were scouted in Colaba, Mumbai, close to Leopold café – Also, I’ve heard some hotels can find you a Bollywood job too if you ask 🙂
