Hi Gina! I have actually made it GF with GF panko crumbs for family members in place of the crushed shredded wheat cereal and it turned out great! I’d recommend trying that.

Hi. I want to make these as they sound amazing from all your reviews and your description. I have one issue though and since I have never tried ham balls, I am not sure what to use. I have to make this gluten free so I need to substitute the:
1 1/3 cups crushed shredded wheat cereal

In my other meatball recipes, I use instant mashed potatoes but those are not made with ham. Do you or any of your fans have a suggestion?

Thank you!

Hi Jill- I have not seen the original for years upon years and make it from my recipe here. I will say that the way I make them is spectacular!

I love ham balls and like to pair them with Hellman’s potato salad recipe for a summer time picnic like meal. Question: I have this original recipe cut out from the Taste of Home magazine. It calls for 2 eggs. Did you change it and find 4 eggs works better?

Oh Diana, that makes me so happy that this is like your Mom’s recipe! There’s nothing like mom’s food to make you feel loved, right?

Mom passed away January 24th this year (2023) , and we’re having her ham balls for Easter tomorrow (April 9th). I’m sure her recipe is written down somewhere…but this is definitely “it”. Happy Easter!
